We are going to take you through a simple process of God's Plan of Salvation. The Romans Road is a way of explaining the Gospel of Jesus Christ, using several easy to understand Bible verses from the book of Romans. The whole process can be summed up in 3 simple things.... Believe, Ask, and Recieve
Step by Step
Admit That We Are Sinners
Romans 3:23 "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (NIV)
When the Bible says ALL that includes everyone. Even telling the smallest lie qualifies you as a sinner, don't worry you have plenty of company. Even the best people that you know qualify as a sinner.
"As it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one" Romans 3:10-18 (NIV) Expands on this topic, but it is enough to realize that you are a sinner.
Understand That The Penalty For Sin Is Death
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death,....." (NIV)
God the creator of the universe is Holy and he has laws which we have all broken. Those laws carry a penalty and that penalty is death, not just a physical death, but an eternal death and separation from God in a place called Hell.
Realize That God Loved Us So Much, He Sent Jesus To Die For Our Sins
Romans 6:23 "...but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (NIV)
The second half of Romans 6:23 is the Good part. God loved us so much, and he knew what our sin would cost us. So he provided us a way to avoid being separated from him for all eternity.
Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (NIV)
He sent his Son Jesus to Die in our place to pay the price for our sins. I think John 3:16 sums it up beautifully. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (NIV)
Believe These Simple Truths And Ask To Be Saved
Romans 10:9 "If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (NIV)
Because Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead, we just simply need to tell him that we believe in our hearts.
Romans 10:10 "For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." (NIV)
Just believe in your heart and call out to him.
Romans 10:13 "for, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (NIV)
Pray
If you believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that he died on a cross for your sins, that he rose from the dead and you feel a need to be saved, all you need to do is talk to God by saying a prayer. You can pray this simple prayer, it's not a magic prayer, it is an outward expression of what is in your heart. A prayer to tell God that you are putting your faith in Jesus.
God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve to pay the price for my sin, but You loved me and sent Jesus to pay for my sin. I believe that he died for me and he rose again from the dead. Lord, I ask that you forgive me of my sins and I ask you to come into my heart. I place my faith in you as my personal Savior, and I thank you for your grace and the gift of salvation. Amen.
